If you have never tried mixed media, this project is the perfect way to start! Today, I'm sharing a creation I made for the Maymay Made It Design Team, a mixed media tag using the "Walk in Love" stamp set, some patterned paper and some Distress Oxide Ink.

Start by creating a simple tag from a 3-1/2" x 5" rectangle of Brutus Monroe Alabaster Cardstock. Just bend the rectangle in half lengthwise and snip off the top two corners. Un-bend, and smooth, and you have an easy tag!

Then, I did a little ink smooshing on my craft mat with some Distress Oxide. Just smoosh the ink pad on the mat, spray the ink on the mat with a little water, and press the tag into the wet ink. It is very important, however, to make sure you dry the tag between each smooshy ink layer. The Oxide inks will oxidize and make wonderful, interesting blends, but they will never make a muddy mess if you dry each layer before re-smooshing.

Stamp the sentiment and the shoes from the "Walk in Love" stamp set on another piece of the white cardstock. I stamped this with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (as that is my go-to ink for stamping). The font and the detail of the sentiment is SO AMAZING! Hand-tear toward you around the sentiment. Take your time, and make sure to pull toward you.

Smoosh some Distress Oxide ink on the craft mat to color in the shoes (any color you like). Spritz the ink on the mat with water. Use a paintbrush or water brush to "watercolor" the shoes with the Oxide ink. Here is where I realized that I should have used a different stamping ink to stamp the shoes. Using watery ink made the Memento Ink (a dye ink - water based) bleed a little. So, I re-stamped the shoes with an archival ink I had in my stash. You could use the VersaFine Pigment Ink from Maymay Made It, if you don't have one. I accented the shoes with some Wink of Stella and fussy cut them out with scissors.

Then, I stamped some of the footprints from the stamp set onto the tag with some Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Ink. For an extra touch, I dragged a little white paint over the edges of the tag with a palette knife.

I fussy cut a few accents from the Echo Park Just Married Paper Pack, and mounted all my little pieces on my inked tag. Finally, I added some twine from my stash and mounted the tag on an Alabaster Cardstock A2-sized card base on top of a panel of Wood Effect Patterned Paper.

I love the art-sy look of this tag! Now, I chose to mount the tag on a card, but you could also use it as a gift tag, a scrapbook page accent, or you could adjust the tag size at the beginning and create an ATC. It's so much fun!
